Health TipsJust like a car runs on fuel, you run on food. What you eat doesn’t just keep you alive but it also determines, to a large degree, how you function, how much energy you will have, your mood, and your weight.

What often surprises me is that people who would never put a low quality fuel into their car will gladly eat unhealthy food without giving it a second thought.

To help you eat better for both weight loss and health purposes, I’ve compiled the following 4 tips:

1. Stop drinking your calories – This is probably the biggest hidden source of calories. People don’t realize it but certain beverages contain hundreds of calories. These include various alcoholic beverages, fancy coffees, and energy drinks. You have to take these liquid calories into account when you plan you daily meals. Otherwise you will not be able to achieve the calorie deficit required for weight loss.

2. Fiber and protein are key – Apart from their many health benefits and our body’s need for them, protein and fiber are also crucial for weight loss. The reason is that both fiber and protein help you feel full for a long time, reducing hunger and the chances that you will overeat. I usually start the day with oatmeal and/or eggs to make sure that I get a good dose of protein, fiber, or both to start my day right.

3. Do your own cooking – The only way to make sure that your nutrition is good is to cook your own food. When you buy ready-made dinners or go out to eat, you’re relinquishing this control. Your health will never be important to anyone else as it is to you.

You can never be sure that restaurant owners of food manufacturers will use the best ingredients in their food. They’re interested in the bottom line. You need to look after your own interests. There are plenty of recipe books that you can use to cook easy and tasty meals. I like the Metabolic Cooking ebook, but it is just one of many options that you have.

4. Not all fats are bad – While you may be trying to lose fat, your body also needs it. Along with carbs and protein, fat is one of the 3 major nutrients that your body must have in order to function properly.

There are fats which are good for your health. You just need to know the right sources of it. These include olive oil, avocado, nuts, coconut oil, and fish.

I hope that you found these 4 tips useful and that you will apply them regularly.
